Of Shadows...

..and the running through them.

If you are not familiar with Shadowrun, here a short summary:
Shadowrun is a Pen&Paper rule set, tied to its own setting. Cyberpunk, augmentation, hacking, virtual reality, mega-corporations, all the funky near-future stuff.
It also has elves, dwarfes, magic and dragons. The blend of these two is hard to grasp at times, but makes, if nothing else, for some pretty unusual gameplay.

Back to the Topic at hand: Shadowrun Returns!
No, that's not me, exclaiming that Shadowrun has returned and will lead us into a bright future. That's the game's name. I'm not quite sure why, because "Shadowrun" never really went away, but the title could be referring to the previous games in the franchise. Those were, as far as I am aware, mediocre at best. This one is good though!

Of Dragons and Disappointment

I'm still not sure if I should be writing about this.
Not because "no one cares what I have to say" - if I felt that way, I wouldn't have a blog. Not because I'm afraid of spoiling people - just don't read it (I will try my best not to spoil anything though). My concerns are that my opinion may not be based on good enough evidence - I've seen a bit, but I would hate to be called out on inaccurate statements based on just about 2 hours of gameplay. And I wasn't even the one playing!
But since I'm already writing about it, might as well go all the way:

Why Dragon Age: Inquisition is a Bad Game

Ah yes, a headline, worthy of any gaming site or magazine. No clickbaiting here though. Honest Opinion following!

Of Technicalities and Artistic Expression

Salut!

Time for being really blunt (and nerdy)!
I'm working on my diploma, at the moment. It's related to sound and 3D-printing - the whole thing will, when finished, read an audio file, generate a ready-to-print 3D-model (consisting of multiple amplitude/frequency graphs layered next to each other) and be printed. After that, RFID-Tags can be inserted into the 3D-representation of the song/sound. Those Tags can be read, of course, which will select the appropriate audio file and play it.

Of Girlfriends of Steel

Aloha!

"Girlfriend of Steel" is the title of a rather old visual novel/dating sim which uses the cast of Neon Genesis Evangelion to tell it's story.
I played through it.
And it was...weird.
The writing is good, the characters and their actions seem fitting to the personalities of the Evangelion-Anime. The "game" starts by introducing a new character - a girl, which takes a liking to Shinji, and is hilariously forward about it(in a good way).

The game itself (=the engine) does have it's problems. I already mentioned that it is fairly old; 3 resolution options that only scale the box around the picture frame in which the story happens and no scaling of the pictures that seem to be at 640x480. Saving can only be done whenever you can take actions of your own - most of the game is self-running, can't be paused and doesn't need any input.
Really, it's more like an anime with still frames and the occasional optional input for more exposure of the world. Only the last decision in the game makes an actual difference, choosing one of three possible endings - there is one other choice in the game, but it only affects whether or not you get to see a kissing scene. This does not affect the progress of the romance in any way.
The biggest issue is, without a doubt, the already mentioned self-running. You can't play the game at your own pace, it advances through the dialogue at a predetermined pace without any pausing, with saving only possible when the game decides that you should be able to do some arbitrary actions that don't affect the story.
For enduring this, you get a fully voice-acted pseudo-dating sim that's true to the source material and feels like it could be part of the anime.

I enjoyed playing it because of the characters; the actions and reactions felt fitting, especially Asuka's.

So long everypony, until next time!

Of Unknown Enemies

Evenin'!

X-COM: Enemy Unknown. I played it. It's not bad - I would even go so far as to say it's a good game. Nowhere near great though.
Why, you could be asking your screen right now - and I shall provide the answer.

Enemy Unknown is a re-imagining of the first game in the franchise, named X-COM: UFO Defense, released back in 1994. The basic mechanics are pretty similar to the original, with exceptions for the most frustrating and/or random events the game threw in your face. It improved, compared with the original, almost all aspects of the game (unless you count being unbalanced, massively unfair and bonebreakingly hard as an aspect). BUT! One thing hasn't improved.
Performance.
Now, my Laptop isn't exactly bursting of power, but it's decent enough to play most games at highest resolution(1920x1080), with the really intense options lowered or disabled (looking at you, AA) to reach somewhat stable 60 FPS. Enemy Unknown isn't the prettiest of games - certainly no Crisis. But it still runs like the proverbial ass, with 30 Frames AT MOST, at 1280x720, without most fancy graphics-stuff disabled. There is absolutely _no_ reason for it to be this hungry. I'd compare it, in terms of graphical fidelity, to Prey, the Shooter from 2007 (Good game by the way. Play it if you haven't.). I still soldiered through it, and got a very rewarding experience. Tough, punishes mistakes, but fair at it's core, with rare occurrences of leveldesign-BS. I had tons of fun while playing it! The ending wasn't very good, but I didn't really expect them to have great writing.
I did try to play the expansion as well (X-COM: Enemy Within).
And got, with the same settings I used for Enemy Unknown, 22 Frames.
What the flux compensator.
Uninstalled it after that, and resumed playing League of Legends.
~160 Frames.

At least someone knows how to optimize their engine. :D

Farewell, for now!

Here I am again, look at me again, here I am again, on my own!

Avast ye!

Alright, back on track. Vacation time is over! I'm back to a regular schedule, and with this, regular blogposts will also resume. Promise. Time to talk about some stuff and roll up loose ends!

Star Wars:
The Campaign died a short and painful death, because one of the players decided that I didn't like his character and announced that he would leave. After I threw a fit and made him realize that he could have ASKED me about it before deciding my opinion of his character for himself, he said that he would give me one last chance – which made me even angrier, but sure, let's play the session "next week" – for two weeks, total silence. Then, he suddenly announced that he was now playing a different game with a different group, because the Star Wars-one "is dead anyways". So I decided that he is now dead to me, short and simple. Since no one else showed any interest, I shrugged and threw it in the bin.

Minecraft: Playing on a Server now, whenever I feel like it. It's Modpack(Vanilla Minecraft is boring) is called "Monster" – because of it's monstrous size and loading time, I would assume. It takes my Laptop about 2-3 Minutes starting it. Remember: Minecraft. So it's basically a massive memory-hog that also eats performance for breakfast. Still fun to figure out all the different mods, and get them running in some convoluted machinery that fills an entire room just to make you coffee. The not-fun-at-all part for me: Lots of kids, almost no one to talk to in a civil matter.
I've even been to their Teamspeak-server a couple of times – there's just not a single person there to talk to, most of the time. Well, actually, there is one person there, almost always. But she just listens and never talks herself. So all of my visits have ended in me either talking to myself(which is a thing I do, but I don't need TS for that), or trying to talk to the random stranger that just appeared, only to realize they barely speak english and sound like they are talking with a washing machine on their head.

Theme for my next entry: X-Com: Enemy Unknown. Be excited!
Or don't. Your choice.

Arrivederci!

P.S.: Title: Iron Maiden - 2AM

Of Printers and sleeping (or lack thereof)

Cheerio Lads!

Yes, there is a reason why I haven't been writing anything here. It's quite simple, really - I got myself a 3D-Printer. I've been so busy modeling, printing, fiddling around with the settings, printing some more and accidentally cutting myself with the exacto-knife while cleaning up the prints that I barely payed attention to anything else. Now that I've got the basics down though, I can slowly divert my attention away from my shiny new toy and start to actually be a useful member of society again.

The most interesting printing project I finished, up until now, is probably the Raygun of Space Dandy. A friend of mine is doing a cosplay of Dandy, and my response was "LEMME PRINT THE GUN PLEASE I WANNA BE USEFUL PLSPLSPLS".

Turns out, I AM useful, given enough time to model the damn gun in blender. Printing it was fairly easy - modeling it was the hard part.  But I endured, I printed, and tomorrow he'll start working on the details - painting it, for instance.  Pictures will follow.

I am thinking about attending the convention myself - not cosplaying, but advertising my 3D-printing-capabilities. Cosplayers do need a lot of stuff custom-made...

Goodbye, for now - getting tired, haven't had much sleep. Prints take, depending on their size, up to 6 hours for me, and since the printer is in my bedroom, I had to compromise on quality sleeptime.
For science!

Oberservations and suicidal heroism

Hey y'all, nice to meetcha!

Basic observation: If you have planned a relatively short session (~3-4 hours), and you have parts in your content where only some of your players can really do anything: Do not allow them to drag this part out. Push them through it. If you allow them to drag it out, your other players will get bored or frustrated, sometimes both.
I had a chase across the surface of a moon planned in the Star Wars-campaign. Did not happen because the close combat-experts decided to question scientists for hours. Ranged players were bored.

Games!
More specifically: Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.
I had a ton of fun playing it with two of my friends, shooting people and getting shot. I died the most: my Unreal Tournament-Instincts are hard to overcome, I just ran into a room with the LMG and gunned people down, dying in the process.  Took me about 2-3 hours to start using cover, blind-fire and all the other mechanics one of my friends dubbed "tacticool. Was less messy, died less, still had fun.
Running into a room, heavily armored and guns blazing, shouting "'MURRICAAAAAA!" is still hilarious, and surprisingly effective.

I also played A LOT of X-COM: Enemy Unknown. Will talk about that soon.

That's it, I'm out!

Of Pens & Papers: Warcraft, more Starwars and killing Hitler with teenagers

A wonderful [insert local time here] to you!

Warcraft!
Last week, I participated in Warcraft-P&P. The GM adjusted the setting a bit, retconning most of the retcons Blizzard did for WoW. It was fun, but not because it was Warcraft - the Setting made no difference, at least for me. We could have been playing "Generic Fantasy 3" and it wouldn't have made any difference for me or my immersion. This may be, in part, because I don't really care for the Warcraft-universe, yes, but there is a much bigger factor: The amount of players on the table. 6 people at the table, 1 GM; 5 players. Keeping everyone's attention, advancing the plot, telling the story and tending to all those NPCs the players are trying to interact with gets increasingly hard the more players you have. Not feeling "at home" in the Setting also didn't help, as mentioned some sentences ago.

Star Wars!
The Star Wars-campaign has turned out to be quite a surprise for me - mainly because I am now the GM. The first Session with me as Gamemaster was well received (the players said they liked it - surely they wouldn't lie?), now I just have to pull them properly into the plot.
The Wookiee is still weird, and the playstyle of his player is even weirder - takes a lot of getting used to, similar to the newest crewmember. The ex-GM is now one of the players, and he is playing a Gargoyle. In Star Wars. Now, Gargoyles do seem to be a thing, but only as monsters/critters, and only on the Dark Side, at least in official lore. However, there was an actual (and kind of overpowered) statline for them on one of the wiki's, so after some balancing, I let him have the stone-skinned, winged monster who is a nice guy.

Killing Hitler!
I honestly never thought I'd be writing that as a caption. Ever. But since it happened, I might as well write about it. A subset of  my friends, me included, enjoy nerding out about Neon Genesis Evangelion, to the point where we tried Pen&Paper in that setting (And yes, we turn just about anything we enjoy into Pen&Paper). After 4 Evangelion-esque campaigns, the player least qualified for GMing in general, out of all my friends,  just really, really had to try and lead an Evangelion-like-campaign himself. It started out 2 years ago, on new years eve. Then we didn't play his campaign, until the next new years eve - but now, he suddenly decided "HEY, LETS PLAY MY CAMPAIGN; I HAD A GREAT IDEA FOR A SESSION!".
Now, knowing my friend, I thought "Oh boy".
But hey, sure, let's do it.
First, time froze (but we - the playercharacters, teenagers who pilot giant mechs for a living -  didn't). Then we discovered that there are others who didn't get frozen as well. One of those was a scientist.
He explained to us that someone is trying to change something in the past, and that time freezes, adapts to the changes, and then moves on. And, of course, that we have to stop that change. Our characters didn't exactly like the Idea, but did it anyway.
But what did they prevent from happening, you ask?
Nazizombies. We prevented Nazizombies, by travelling to Berlin, entering a timeportal, killing Hitler, killing the Timedemon that was inside of him, and returning to our own time.
And once again, time was saved from the evil Timedemons by THE TIMEPOLICE! Or, rather,
3 16 to 18-year-old teenagers.
You might already have noticed that this all is a bit too over-the-top stupol (stupid+cool) for my tastes. But it was absolutely what I expected from my friend, who has absolutely no sense of taste whatsoever(according to me).

Still had fun. Really stupid, stupid fun, but fun nonetheless.

That's all folks. More next time (Which will be sometime this week).
Ciao!

Of Pens and Papers: Star Wars

...or, to call it by its full name:
"The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded"

Facts: d6-based ruleset, quite old. Covers just about anything you'd want to have in terms of skills/Abilities for a character in the Star Wars-Universe. All references to lore are post-Deathstar-destruction (the Rulebook was published 1987), we played just after the Mandalorian Wars, just before the Sith Empire took the stage. For that, we are using material straight from the Interwebs - a considerable amount, specifically tailored to the underlaying D6 System(that is the official name of the underlying System). Most of it is Old-Republic-Era, since people care a lot more about that, apparently. Used Sites: d6holocron.com, some others I forgot.

Onto the actual gaming session: Our DM is a literal newb(read: noob), both in the sense of PnP and Star Wars and just sends the people around, doing random fetchquests with no tie-ins to anything that would be remotely relevant. He has a lot to learn; but so did I, nobody's born a genius. I am playing a Sith Apprentice, on the lookout to kill the one who has killed her master. The other partymembers are a reprogrammed HK-Droid, a gray Jedi who is also a Gand (which are Insect-Aliens) and a Wookiee who is always accompanied by an Ewok who translates for the Wookiee.
Which is WEIRD, but I guess you(I? We?) don't have to take everything dead-serious; the Ewok doesn't really break immersion for me, so I see no reason to complain. Others are less tolerant, but still accept it without flipping the (virtual) table.

Point of Interest: This was the first time I played Pen&Paper via the Internet, using Skype and https://app.roll20.net/. Roll20 does, in my opinion, a pretty good job of giving everyone the tools he or she needs for a successful, if slightly awkward, tabletop-session. All important dice-rolls are supported (even Fate); so far, I have not found anything I could really complain about. It even has Audio-playback for some Background-music.

Sidenote: Apparently, the Audience for Pen&Paper was less serious back then compared to what I am used to. The Star Wars-Rulebook gives a bunch of example characters - one of them is a kid. Qoute:
Connection With Characters: Choose another player character as your older sibling/adopted parent/idol/whatever. You don't have to get the other player's permission. In fact, if he or she is annoyed, that's entirely appropriate.
I don't even want to imagine the shitstorms I would have to endure, should I ever decide to just play a kid and follow one of my friends' characters around while not even asking for their permission.

Will play a Session of Warcraft-Pen&Paper on Saturday with my RL-Friends. A rather curious choice, as far as I am concerned, but I am willing to see if it has enough substance to support a campaign.

Byesies everyone! *waves*

More journeys into even more darkness

Played more of Descent. Ugh.
It's not a bad game, it's fun for a while. But as soon as the players get some money, which is unrelated to them winning the scenarios, they just stomp everything and crush the Overlord's minions. The game does favour the players in the long run - since you can't permanently kill them, they just stack up on items until they slap the monsters into submission while joking about yesterdays manicure.

If you don't mind thinking up amazing tactics, only to get steamrolled by the opposition because you have a 1/6 chance to miss any attack, then this game can be pretty fun.
For me: too much based on luck.

Will play DnD 4th Edition today, on the side of the players. Trying out a backstabbing Dragonborn, setting is pretty generic fantasy. We just wanted to have some casual dungeoncrawling-fun, without heavy roleplay-action, so DnD was an obvious choice.

Time to prepare,
kthxbai

Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So, I played the Boardgame "Descent: Journeys in the Dark".
People who venture into the dark corners of boardgaming and cardgames a lot will know the name Fantasy Flight Games - they made this as well.

The basic Principle: It's Pen&Paper, without making your own characters, without any roleplaying.
Just pure Dungeoncrawling. 5 Players together on the Table, 4 can be cooperative Players and one has to be the Gamemaster, or, as the game refers to him, the "Overlord". The Overlord gets to control all the monsters, the Players each get one Hero. Then you try to beat your opposition - gaming the system is encouraged, and the Overlord will not only try, but is encouraged to dick you over as much as he can.
That said, his options are usually limited to bodyblocking you from objectives or slapping tripwire everywhere - it is just a miniature-based combat-focused boardgame with some Pen&Paper concepts added in for good measure. Which is not bad at all, it's pretty fun. Also, the quality of the miniatures is pretty good, very detailed.

But.
I would not call it balanced. Yes, all Boardgames are in some way based on luck, but this feels like at least 75% of all won or lost scenarios are purely based on luck, which made the last 2 Scenarios we played rather frustrating. Not only that, but some of the Quests - that's what the game calls it's different combat scenarios - seem to heavily favour one side or the other. Some appear to just not be winnable at all on the side of the heroes, and that's just the basic setup, without any fancy stuff the overlord can add.

Will probably play more of it - we'll see if more playing changes anything.

Read you later, everyone!

Of Fun and Unfun

'ello there!

So, translation!

______________________________

It was raining.
No storm with raindrops coming horizontally at you, not even real rain that was actually capable of soaking you to the skin. Just a slight, summery drizzle rained down upon the small village that was nestled up against the side of a huge mountain. Some time ago, the Village had been a small town, with dozens and dozens of people, back when the Mines in the "Salt mountain" weren't considered depleted. Now, after the Output of the Mines had decreased to the point where the great Alchemist of the realm declared the mining uneconomic, only the ones in favour of the rural style of life still lived there. 30 people, now putting down their tools in the face of the rain to take a break under arches and roofs, if they didn't work there anyway.
One of those under-the-roof-workers, the only smith of the village, put his hammer down too, stretched his muscles and called for his daughter. He felt like relaxing in the Tavern with a cool beer, but someone would have to finish the horseshoe he had on his anvil. "Hilde!", he shouted. "Finish this for me, will you!" No answer, only silence. He shouted again, louder, but the answer, which was none at all, was the same. Only the almost unnoticeable sound of the drizzling rain joined the sizzling of the glowing hot coal in the forge.
He, who's name was Manfred, sighed, put the horseshoe back on the glowing coals to keep it hot and went outside into the rain to give a stern talk to his daughter. He thought about what he would say this time, while the rain cooled his bald head. "And this time for real", he mumbled to himself, while he walked to the backside of the Smithy to follow the narrow and now slightly muddy pathway. The way led him along the wooden backsides of the houses, to the old dry Well, on all sides encased by buildings, only accessible through two paths on either side. The Well was a leftover, from the time before the rapid Expansion. It got enclosed between the buildings, and mostly forgotten – but he knew very well where to find the Well, just as much as he knew that his daughter would be there. And surely enough, there she was, her light summer-dress wet from the rain, back facing to him and giggling while exchanging kisses with the son of the carpenter.

Yep, that's it.

Well, no, not really, but that's all I'm going to translate. Now, call me a lazy(which would be the truth), but translating this was just unfun. I had zero fun with this. And I really, really fight with myself when I do things that are just not fun at all. And why fight against myself when I could be doing much more useful stuff I actually enjoy?
So, no more translations if it's not a) absolutely neccessary or b) fun for me, for some reason.
But now that that's outta the way, I will write more Blogposts, because I don*t have to feel shit about not progressing as much as I want to! Yay!

On a sidenote, I played way too much League of Legends the past 2-3 days. I main Janna now.
I laughed so hard when I bounced a Rengar mid-leap away from my Marksman/ADC with my ult. He flew away like a confused kitten.

So long, Summoners!

Of Pain and Suffering

Howdy Folks,

So, the day after the last post, I started getting a toothache.

Now I am missing a tooth and taking the last of my "dude, you have a really massive cheek filled with disgusting stuff, gotta fix that"-pills.
It's not massive anymore (which is good), still a decent amount of pain, but for once it's not the kind of Pain that makes you forget where you are.

Needless to say, no progress was made at all. :(
Time to fix that.

'Til later, folks!

Metal and Maidens

SABBAAAAATH!

Unusual greeting, isn't it?
Storytime!

My Mother invited me to the Nova-Rock-Festival – she REALLY wanted to see Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath live, at least once. Since both of them were playing there, we (my mother, her boyfriend and myself) went there too; drove there every evening, didn't camp as most festival-people would.
Iron Maiden was alright, I suppose. I'm not a Maiden-fan; some Albums are nice to listen to, but nothing I would risk concussions (through headbanging) for. Sound was a bit shit at the start, got better after approximately half an hour. Still, no songs I would have liked to hear, mostly the really old stuff (including fear of the dark, obviously).
Now, Black Sabbath on the other Hand... considering I knew no songs of Sabbath (Paranoid doesn't count), I was rather surprised they worked so well for me. I am willing to accept any sort of concussion I might not have noticed by now for such an amazing performance. Screamed my lungs out, still coughing – such is the price of metal. :D Sound was great too.

In other news – who remembers me ranting about my total lack of interest for girls?
So, uhm, let's say a healthy dose of eyecandy in the form of the famed metal-/goth-chick more or less fixed me. Didn't get any numbers, but boy do I wish I had. HAWT GURLS, so to speak.

The least surprising act at the festival: Volbeat. Expectation: Awesome, Reality: Awesome.

Translation of the Story I started a few posts back is nearly done. Expect it to be the content of the next post.

FREEEEEDOOOOOOM!

Connichiwa!

Today is my last day at work. Somehow, this feels really relieving. THESE CHAINS CANNOT HOLD ME! Yes, cheesy Xerathquote, I am not ashamed in the slightest.

I spent the fist 30 Minutes (I'm very early at work) making fun of my future ex-superiour. Made my co-worker(s) laugh, totally worth it. :D And yes, I only did that so openly because my boss isn't here yet. No, I'm not one to talk bad behind someone's back, usually, and I don't plan on continuing this – I just wanted a pretty girl to smile. I think that should be acceptable.

In other news, I got more free time now (duh) – not only because I quit my job, but also because there's a bunch of free days here in my country. I will whip myself bloody until I have that damn translation done! Other than that, I'm thinking about a tiny, short Pen&Paper-campaign in the FTL-Universe, true to the game. Which means the Pen&Paper-session will probably end with a burning playership aber 20 minutes, in true FTL-fashion.

So long, read you soon!

Wednesday, 4 June 2014

Ramble, ramble, ramble.

Avast ye!

Today is really, really weird. Since my superiour is at a press conference and will be gone all day, work feels really relaxed. People communicate more and get more work done (from my perception) compared to when he's in – which might also be related to him not being able to give you some amazingly important task you have to do RIGHT NOW.

I feel really, really guilty about not being able to pour some quality time into more writing and translating – maybe I'll get it done now, but I highly doubt that. Still work to do. After work: the finishing touches for another project I am forced to work on. Not a fan of it, but at least I don't have to pay attention to it anymore when it's finished – freedom!

Time for a totally different topic!
Women!
Yeah, got your attention now, don't I. Well, it's a lot less interesting than it sounds – I just have noticed that my general interest in looking at pretty women has diminished. I still notice them, but I don't seem to have any interest in even thinking about "dat booty" for any amount of time. As soon as they pass me, they are gone from my mind. I assume that my brain just had so little womanly attention in the last 5 years, it totally forgot how to feel excited about it.
I'm actually bothered by unneccesary nudity in media now – when you don't care for cleavage anymore, getting it pressed in your face every 5 seconds gets annoying. I was always big on the "Don't sexualize women, they are people too", but I still appreciated appropriately sized boobage, especially in the right "wrapping".
Now, I still like the aesthetics of a pretty body and I'm still a fan of creative lingerie, but it has absolutely no effect on me (in the sense of making me horny). The Assumption that actual, close (intimate/sexual?) contact with a girl would "fix" me doesn't sound too far off, but I'm not sure if I even want to fix this.
And no, I'm not interested in guys either. Yes, I'm sure, no, I'm not turning gay out of frustration. Weirdos.

Until I write again!

Why do I feel so proud of this.

Okay,
I really did not expect translations to be this hard to do. Guess my English isn't as good as I thought it would be (or my German is a lot better - plenty room for improvement in both cases). Sorry it's taking so long - I don't have a lot of free time, and most of it was used to play Minecraft and pen&paper this weekend.

Which brings me to the core of this posting - Minecraft! TekkitLite, to be precise.

Now, I'm not a genius. I have a certain aptitude for building convoluted machinery, that's about it.
And for exactly this reason, I am really, really proud of my latest "Invention", which essentially pumps lava out of the Nether and feeds a bunch of geothermal generators with it.
That's not new, nor especially creative.
The interesting Part is how I get the power from the Nether to the Overworld - time for some pictures!

Here you can see the Generators. Current max. output is 420 EU/t - needs more generators, but for now it's alright. The Generators store their energy in an MFSU, which in turn transfers the power to Lapotron Crystals. Those get cycled out of(if empty) or into(if full) an Enderchest.

Edit: Since my friend said I'm lying, and selling his idea as my own: Using Crystals and an Enderchest was his idea. The Machinery, coding and everything else is my doing, but I feel guilt-tripped into at least mentioning that HE had the Idea with the Crystals and the Enderchest.

My calculations indicate that fully loading a Lapotron Crystal takes about 100 seconds (96.7) - so the switching out of the crystals is done on a 120-seconds-interval for now, just to have some leeway. Oh, and the tiny thing in front of the Generators is a Chunkloader. Don't wanna be in the Nether all day.
Challenges here: pump the Lava fast enough to keep all the generators powered all the time. Easymode, really.

But now it gets much more interesting!

The Setup in the Overworld called for creative solutions, since discharging Lapotron Crystals can only be done from the bottom slot of the MFSU - and that slot is only accessible to machinery from the bottom side of the Block. So I needed a way to both load and unload crystals from the same side.
I love Frame Motors so much. :D

Explanation: every 115 seconds, a swap-cycle starts. The middle area between MFSU and Enderchest moves one block to the right, connecting the Filter to the MFSU, pumping out the empty Lapotron and dumping it in the Enderchest. Then the whole assembly moves back to the left and a full Lapotron gets pulled from the Chest and dumped into the MFSU. All this takes about 5 Seconds. 115+5=120 - isn't that the timer for the Swapcycle on the other side? Well, yes it is! Nifty, innit?

I'm WAY too proud of this.

I play with 110 FoV, in case you are wondering about the distorted images.

More Fantasystory upcoming.
I really hope I get the Translation done in time ;_;

Des Schmieds Tochter/The Smith's Daughter #1

Salutations!
Wrote the first page of my novel-thingy. Names and the title are subject to change.
This is Fantasy, not Porn, just FYI.
Apologies to the english-only audience - translation follows later.

--------------------

Feedback is, as always, encouraged.
English translation will be up tonight, probably.

Ciao!

Generic short diary-entry

Avast ye!

So I presented my boss with the fact that I will quit my Job. I was diplomatic about it, told him I would stay until he finds a replacement. He went from 'smiling at me knowingly' over 'you are just running away from yourself' to 'well, that's just great, thanks' in about 3 minutes. In short: He didn't take me seriously for a while, and then got grumpy(which is understandable, to be fair).
Now, ever since then the pressure he put on me before – "Write me a Press release about this! And this! And this! Get more Ideas for Press releases! Check the Papers! WAAAARGH!" - is nearly gone. Suddenly, when I write a thing, he puts going over it "somewhere around 3", instead of going over it "RIGHT NAO!" and sending multiple Iterations between me and him like he used to.
Also: he treats me like I'm a lost cause. Where first was fake positivity ("This is totally wrong! Oh well, you'll learn how to do it in time!"), now there's just resignation("I can't use that. Well, noone told you how you should do it properly, I suppose.").

I do understand his mood, but I really do not appreciate being treated this way.

Different topic: I will participate in a writing contest. 15K words, deadline: 3rd of September, general direction: fantasy. Yes, some of those 15k words will find their way onto this blog before the deadline, but not all of it. Don't wanna help my competition, harhar.

Alright, that's it for today. Fairly short. I have to admit – gonna write more next time. Maybe some smut, although that's unlikely – don't feel like it at the moment. Not in the "mood", so to speak. No, no headaches.

Cheerio!

Towards the Dawn!

Tomorrow, I'm going to hand in my notice of cancellation – if that actually means "I will quit my job", which I will be doing.

Why, you might ask (or might not, depending on how much you really care about someone rambling on the Internet.)?
Here's some of my reasons, in no particular order:
  • I know that, sooner or later, I will have a fight with my boss. I'm a decent judge of character, and I do happen to at least know myself rather well. I won't get along with him forever, and I'd rather leave than get fired.
  • This isn't what I hoped it would be. I thought I could bring my own Ideas into this job and be all "pumped 'n shit" about it. Well, turns out, my skills in creative writing, those I got hired for, aren't needed. Everything goes by a rather strict scheme, with almost no space for your personal style.
  • Cars (remember, this company is about/related to cars) really don't interest me that much. I THOUGHT I could tide myself over, ease into it with the stuff I actually care about, which are electric cars, hydrogen-fueled cars... oh, and self-driving cars. Huge Nerd-boner, right there. But, well, since we (as a company) aren't interested in "promoting" stuff for free(which is understandable in some way), we actually have to get some deals with them fancy car-companies first, for some cross-promotion. Until then, I have to write about where you should get your gasoline when driving on vacation, so you pay less for your fuel. Yes, it is as boring as it sounds.
  • Everything I hand in for review to my section chief gets changed around so hard, I don't even recognise it as my own. Most of the time, I hand it in 3-4 times, with him still not being totally satisfied when we release it. Frankly, I'd rather he wrote it himself in the first place ^.-

In short: I know I will get into trouble with my Boss sooner or later, Everything I write gets changed around so much I'm actually embarrassed to put my name under it, and I can neither write in a creative manner, nor about stuff I actually give a shit about.

Some would be inclined to tolerate all of this, just so they have a job. I'm sorry I have to be the stupid white guy who isn't satisfied with his reasonable source of monetary income, but yes, I'd rather have no Job than hate my Job. Maybe(probably) someday, I will look back and regret my decision. But for now, my sense of honour tells me to let someone do this job who can do it better, while my ridiculously intense pride does not allow me to continue a job I'm starting to hate.

To everyone else who is thinking about quitting his/her job:
Think about WHY you want to quit. Think about what exactly it is you don't like. Take your time, a week more or less will (probably) not kill you. And then think about if there is anything else that you could be doing that would make you happier, and if this "anything" would require quitting your job. If not: Talk. To your superior, to your union or even your colleagues.
If it requires quitting your job: Do it. You should enjoy your life. Not in a "YOLO"-way, unless that is exactly your way, but then you wouldn't be reading this. Take a step forward, towards your future. Yes, you can't know if you will be happier there. But you can't know if you're not either.
Take a chance, enjoy what comes next – there is always a tomorrow.
A new dawn, so to speak.

Thoughts?
Be my guest, comments below.

Farewell, for now!

Of Pens and Papers: Irving

Ahoy!

I decided to continue writing in English, unless I feel I HAVE to write something in German. If so, I will most likely provide translations. Reason: Catering to the audience.

Alright, Pen&Paper!

Finished the long. LONG campaign of a friend of mine. It was actually getting really confusing in places, with a lot of secrecy, betrayals and one or two seemingly random plot twists for good measure. The Ending cleared, or rather: cleaned it up pretty neatly though.

Some basic info about the campaign: Originally based on Neon Genesis Evangelion, a bunch of theoretical concepts (Multiverse, etc.) and a lot of „wishful thinking“ (quite literally – we obtained the power to manifest our wishes, in some sense.) lead to „THE QUEST TO DESTROY THE WORLD MACHINE“, which later turned into „THE QUEST TO FIX THE WORLD MACHINE, KINDA“(The WORLD MACHINE is the highest entity. Period. And it's broken, apparently..OR IS IT?) As you can maybe tell from the sheer scale of it all(and the wishing), it takes some ideas from Gurren Lagann as well. It all started Ages ago, with 3 Characters, prepared to defend Earth from the „Invaders“, while their supreme commander had his own plans.
Told you, it's based on NGE.

Time to tell you the Backstory of one of the three „teenagers“ - the one I was playing.

Irving Lanchester ]I[ (← the 3rd. Yes, he writes it that way. It's also his Symbol.)
Born in Lanchester, a (fictional) town in England. As the second of three children, with his older brother Simon and his younger sister Meriday, he was a bit of a spoiled child. Not a brat, certainly, because he had a fairly stern father, but since he was the second-in-line for the „honour of the family“, he cared much less for his title, and a lot more for having fun in life.
For instance, as part of family tradition, he had to learn an instrument. His sister chose the Violin, and his Brother the Chello, so it was expected of him to learn the piano, like is father.
Instead, he went for the Saxophone.
Now, one day, he was sitting under his favourite tree, a big, old Oak, of to the side of their residence, reading a book. His brother Simon (already known as a bit of a troublemaker) walked up the path to their house, just now coming home from taking private math-lessons, disgruntled.
To keep it short(the original bio was several pages long – don't expect me to go into detail here):
Simon walked up to the house, Meriday(sitting on the swing in front of the house) teased him a bit about his bad school grades. Simon, not seeing Irving and knowing that their parents weren't home either, decided to teach that loudmouth a lesson; he tried to rape her. Irving reacted to the commotion, saw what was happening, grabbed an Axe (think two-handed, lumberjack-axe) from the shed and killed his brother by first just hitting him with the axe and then beheading him as soon as he got him off his sister. After that, he joined the „We defend earth from giant monsters“-company at the age of 17 and has been all about protecting and helping other people ever since. Usually not by violence – he's hates violence, but doesn't hesitate to use „approriate force“ to protect others. If not forced to fight, he's a really, really social guy, and likes to be around other people all the time, joking, flirting and playing his Sax.
Over the course of his Playercharacter-life, he had 3 Girlfriends(all of them died), one threesome, got shot at multiple times, stabbed, shared his body with another soul(twice), shared his own soul with someone else, got to be the sidekick for a „superhero“ and threw people through the room per telekinesis on multiple occasions, amongst other things.

At the end of this campaign, he's 20.

I think those are the most important outlines. Should you feel the need to ask for specifics, go ahead.

That's it for now – honestly, I'd rather talk about NPCs than PCs – even if they are my own – but since the campaign just ended, I felt the need to share.

Avast, I be deparrrtin' - me be postin' later in tha week!

What would you do?

Greetings, Earth-dwellers.

Now, this post will not be funny, at least not on intention. I will attempt to convey my mind to you, and what I am thinking right now - yes, that's scary, but read along anyway, it won't hurt you.
Promise.

Today, I had the first serious talk with my superior(I'm rather new there). Since I'm in press and public relations, we/I have to look out for the public Image of the Company, amongst other things. Now, my concept of PR is really similar to the one of Riot Games: friendly, cheery, "We care about every single one of you", "let's work together to create something amazing" and so on. Pure, concentrated positivity, without any "hey, you see those guys over there? They're SHIT, because of x!"
Now, you may, possibly, already see where I am going with this. The "Oh my, that guy over there sure fucked up!"-approach is commonly used in politics all over the world, especially in the EU at the moment(goddamn elections). And, well, my chief-of-division has the same way of dealing with other organisations. Especially if they're not our partners/"friends". Now, in aforementioned talk, he told me who he wants to bash, and why. I certainly see WHY he wants to do it - We want to get a bigger, better Image, while diminishing the public Image of our "opponents".

I'm just not really happy with it, at all. I don't want to act like this. I want to show the public that we are awesome because we care for them, not because "everyone else is shit."

Some will now say "well that's how the world works" and shrug. Yes, that's true - in part. It is true as long as people accept, or even support it. But it doesn't have to be this way, as shown by Riot. You don't HAVE to use negative reinforcement. Yes, it's easy. Yes, it's effective. But is it honourable? Hell no. It's cowardly and hateful.

Now, my superior probably thinks "Excellent, this guy can write, and I can mold him just how I want him to be!". Instead, I will try to mold him, or at least free myself of having to do the "dirty work". Yes, this could easily get me fired somewhere down the line. And I'm OK with it. I'd rather look for a new job than act against everything I believe in.
*sigh*
We'll see how it goes.

Alright, that's all for now. Next post is more on the happy side, hopefully.

Cheers.
(and a shoutout to Nerdfighteria, by the way. The world doesn't HAVE to suck.)

On sausage and monkeys

Salutations everyone!

Everyone alright? Feeling good? I do. I had my first radio-interview today. National radio! :D

Different topic:
I really need to talk about this, since my country can't shut up about it:
The bearded lady-man that won the eurovision song contest.
No, I won't mention his name. Not because I hate him/her/whatever. I'm all for tolerance and abolishing genders, go ahead. I even applaud his courage.
No, I'm annoyed because EVERY SINGLE newspaper in the entire country just CAN NOT stop writing about him. Yeah, okay, he won the song contest, good for him, good for us! But I am sick TO DEATH of those awful, AWFUL puns everyone has to make with his name.
(Explanation for those unaware: the family name-part of his pseudonym – or stage name – is the german word for sausage.)
Every single bloody fucking idiot/monkey(idiot-monkey?) with a typewriter is making sausage-puns. Now, puns are acceptable. Once. Maybe twice. But this is getting out of hand! It's like a contagious, mind-altering virus. And I'm seriously terrified of catching it. DO NOT WANT. Also I have to read every single one of them, because a part of my job is looking through the press each day and taking notes about stuff we should mention ourselfes. Bleh.

Some Pen&Paper coming up sooner or later – will write about that in the future. Really feel like exploring some of the NPCs I thought of, maybe detailing their backstory a bit. Y'know, stuff that is useful for DMs(that's me, in this case) when they plan further campaign progress.

Cheerio lads, talk t'ya later!

Oh joy, rambling and porn.

(Porn is in english. Rejoice, world.)
Tagchen allerseits!

Ein komisches Gefühl, wieder einen Blog zu haben – einerseits ist durchaus der Wille da, zu schreiben, wenn nicht sogar das verlangen. Andererseits – was „darf“ ich teilen, was nicht?

„Ich will was schreiben“, sagte ich mir. „Ich setz' mich jetzt in die Küche und schreib' irgendwas.“ Und genau das ist auch passiert. Inspiriert von Corruption of Champions und ähnlichen Werken, zusammen mit einer Prise ungesund-intensiver Fanliebe für Portal präsentiere ich:

Too joung for porn or really, really not in the mood for Hentai-esque almost-rape? Then look away, fast. Oh, and a shoutout to Fenoxo. I got, like, half of my porn-writing skills from "playing" your games! The other half is cybersex. Ah, glorious youth, spent in Neverwinter Nights, roleplaying.

Relaxation Chamber

Portal-themed written Smut. Yes, that's right. I went there.
God I feel smug right now.

(Authors' note on the setting/timeline: Set somewhere in the early Stages of Portal 2, assuming that Chell goes back to a Hibernation Chamber similar to the one you wake from in the beginning of the game. Why would she do that? Because there's a lot of testing between GlaDos waking and Wheatly de-railing the whole procedure. Days of it. Weeks! And for testing, you need to be rested. So GlaDos puts Chell in one of those nifty Apartments on rails at the end of every day. Makes decent enough sense, don't you think?)

The elevator came to a halt, she exited and the cold glow of the screens displaying Aperture-adverts greeted her, as usual. Chell felt a bit uneasy - the last Testing Chamber almost killed her, her legs were shaking a little and her heart still hadn’t fully calmed down. She took a moment to breathe and to remind herself that the sooner she got through, the sooner she got to get back to the Hibernation Cell, with a bed and the faint Illusion of a calm life. She finally got her legs to stop shaking when she remembered the other ‘activities’ she planned on doing once she got back to her bed. She straightened her jumpsuit, enjoying the brief sensation of fabric rubbing over her nipples while displaying an almost cheeky grin on her face and thinking about how not even the mad AI could take her masturbation routine from her(that's what she thought, anyway).
Chell grabbed her Portal Gun, nodding to herself in confidence and went to take a look at the backlit Hazard-display in front of the next Testing Chamber. There was just one single hazard-symbol on the display: a stylized human, lying on a surface, with multiple hearts over it's head. “Maybe something with a Companion Cube?” she thought to herself, keeping a faint smile from her previous self-confident grin. No vocal introduction hailed her when she approached the round, automatic door leading into the testing area, just a camera following her movements. The door opened as expected, and she went inside.
The chamber itself didn't look as convoluted as she expected this far in the testing – a button and an associated door, nothing else. No laseremitters, no crate-droppers, no gel-dispensers. Just a button and a door. The “wires” that led from the button to the door spiraled around the pedestal of the button in a weird manner that made no sense to her, even branched off or just disappeared under the groundplates, but since the connection led to the door as well, she just pressed the button, ready to dodge whatever GlaDOS might throw at her. Nothing happened. Chell turned her head, looking for anything to change in the chamber - too late did she notice the aperture-white clamps that took hold of her ankles and affixed her feet to the plate she was standing on. Quite surprised she tried to wriggle her feet free, but to no avail: the tight, rubbery grip around her ankles did not move an inch, and neither did she.
Then, she finally heard the voice she almost started to miss. “Welcome to the voluntary relaxation chamber. This is not a test.” Chell heard an almost silent buzzing under her – she looked down and widened her eyes in shock as an about 10 inch long, anatomically modeled phallus of the same color as the clamps emerged from under the ground plates, affixed to a robotic arm. “This chamber was built to relax our test subjects by relieving them from the stress of testing. If you do not wish to take this offer for free relaxation, say 'no' now.” Chell stared, quite horrified, at the mechanical dildo and tried to say, then shout something, anything really – she knew she just wasn't capable of formulating anything other than guttural noises, and so did GlaDOS. Desperate, she forced out “Nnnnnnnn!” and “Ooooooo!” as loud as possible, to which the disembodied voice responded: “Your Response has been noted as 'Anticipation'. The door to the next test will open after an additional administering of 'stress relief'.” Chell started to panic, pulling the trigger on her Portal Gun repeatedly, trying to open a portal under her and maybe escape that way, but the only response was a fizzing sound from the gun, and a seemingly emotionless GlaDOS. “The Portal Gun has been disabled in this chamber to ensure maximum relaxation”. She struggled against her bindings, trying to loosen them by hand, but even her sudden, adrenaline-induced influx of strength did not help her in any way. The buzzing of the artificial penis grew louder, and suddenly two mechanical arms, equipped with the same cuffs that held her feet firmly in place, grabbed her arms and pulled her in an upright position. She screamed, part in terror, part in frustration, as even more mechanical arms appeared from under the groundplates, equipped with grabbing tools. Those very same tools went to work on her, unzipping her jumpsuit, undressing her as far as possible without having to let go of her cuffs, which basically meant exposing her breasts and her stomach. Only now Chell spotted one single camera, across the room above the exit, watching her. She tried to look at it with her most defiant glare, but got interrupted by the feeling of cold, wet “relaxation equipment” touching her nipples, followed by a vibrating sensation between her legs, rubbing against the fabric of the jumpsuit. With a surprized „Eeeee!“ she looked down on herself, recognizing the thing currently touching her nipples as some kind of artificial tounge, lubricated and textured, rubbing over and around her nipple quite sensually. She struggled, tried to force her body away from it, but quickly realized just how vice-tight the grip around her limbs was and how little room to move she had. Again, she screamed in frustration while attempting to struggle – she felt her nipples getting hard, and she was not ready to admit defeat to her AI-Overlord.
She wasn’t really frightened - GlaDOS would never try to kill her without giving her a chance to escape, so she believed firmly. Of course, that would mean that she was actually doing something to help her, in her own weird way, which Chell found unsettling. Either that, or the rogue AI was just torturing her for fun. Her mental breakdown of the situation got interrupted by a pair of very soft, artificial lips that closed around her other nipple, applying a gentle sucking, while the vibrating between her trained and slim thighs intensified. She felt herself enjoying it, but still wasn't ready to just submit – she continued struggling, shouted angrily in the direction of the camera. “Let me go, you monster!” she thought, but all she shouted was “Aaaaaaaa!”. Her eyes widened as her shouting actually changed something: one of the roof plates moved to the side, and another anatomically correct phallus descended from above, a bit shorter, but otherwise identical to the counterpart between her legs. The clinically clean dick, complete with veins and an engorged head, put itself against her lips, which she pressed together while pulling her head away from it as far as possible. She tried desperately to keep her composure, to not let up and resist as much as possible, if only to defy GlaDOS, but a sudden electric shock through her nipples made her loose her concentration and gasp in surprise, just for a second – more than enough time for the artificial cock to force itself between her lips. She tried to scream, but her mouth would only emit a muffled “Mmmmmhh!”, sealed thight by the phallic instrument. She tried to bite it, but the quite hard rubber, which she assumed felt like an actual, hard dick, proved stronger and just started moving slowly in her mouth, with its head rubbing over her tongue in a slow, pumping manner. She was so busy regulating her breathing through her nose and just getting a grip of the situation that she didn't even really notice some of the mechanical arms cutting open her jumpsuit, which made it slide off of her. She only really noticed her orange suit missing as the vibrating, 10 Inch long Dildo pressed it's head against her pleasurebutton, sending a not inconsiderable wave of pleasure through her. Combined with the sucking and licking sensations on her nipples, she just couldn’t supress her needs any longer and moaned loudly onto the slowly growing artificial cockhead that started to fill out her mouth. For the moment, she totally forgot that she was supposed to resist and actually started rubbing her tongue alongside her oral invader, enjoying the closest she ever came to a real dick and drifting away into her own sex fantasies. The sudden feeling of her pussy being invaded broke her trance and made her realize that this, probably, was only the beginning. She tried to pull together some of her remaining fighting spirit - not that it would have changed the situation - and tried to somehow force the cock out of her mouth to scream. Pressing her tongue against the fat dick had a radically different result - it started twitching ever so slightly and dumped a gooey substance into her mouth, filling it so full she was forced to swallow it, since her lips were still sealed shut by the massive girth of her intruder. Only after it had its full payload delivered did it retreat, finally allowing her to breathe normally again. She coughed, shook her head, tried to focus, but she could only moan from the now rather pleasureable buzzing inside her pussy while her B-Cup breasts, not used to touches other than her own, where still being treated to expertly administered sucking and licking. Slowly, her restrains moved her forward, first into a kneeling position, then on to all fours. She tried to fight back, but the sheer force of the orgasm she felt approaching left her mind almost blank. A loud and lust-filled moan escaped her, then a second one, and finally she came, crying out in pleasure with the strongest climax she had ever felt as the vibrating tip suddenly pushed against a very sensitive spot inside of her she didn’t even know existed. Her mind went blank, every single thought pushed aside by the massive orgasm while her body was rocked by uncontrollable spasms.

Why would I ever...

...start writing another Blog? (Yes, I had one before. It's gone now.)

Simple, really: I feel the NEED to write. A searing desire to create – others draw, or sing. Not because they do it for money (well, some do), but because they want to. Now, I do like singing myself, in the sense of ”the squealing you sometimes hear when somebody sings in the shower“; and when I try to draw, the paper starts crying. But what I CAN do is write. Some people tell me I’m pretty good at it.

Some tell me I’m an ass, but that's unrelated.

Anyways!

This fire inside me was locked away, burning on low flame, for a long while now – but now, since I started a job where I write for a living (kinda – it's a lot more boring than it sounds), I just can't stand not having an outlet for the writing I WANT to do. That does not mean that I don't like the stuff I write at my job, heavens no. But I won't get to write the “crazy stuff” there, like Fantasy, or SciFi, or Porn (writing smut – ever looked at CoC/TiTs? – is more fun than it sounds!), or any other genre I happen to be interested in at that time.

Oh, and I also like writing about really, really specific stuff. Like the Calculations that brought me to my current TekkitLite Nuclear Reactor-Set-up(Minecraft) or coding in Lua for my ComputerCraft-powered automated door mechanism(Minecraft again) or.. uhm...let's just say I played a lot of Minecraft/Tekkit with 2 of my friends the last few weeks.

Other than that: League of Legends, Pen&Paper, FTL, Kerbal Space Program and a bunch of other Stuff. Like Card games, or... well, y'know. STUFF. Mostly games though. There's even a possibility I could write about building awfully specific electronic circuits, or what challenges I faced when I tried to fix the electrical wiring of the 80-years-old house of my parents. I might even do Youtube-Videos at one point or another. I'm not a good singer, but my voice seems to be great for voice-acting. I'm actually trying to do voice-acting for a living at some point(in the far, far future) – heck, my voice was one of the reasons why I was hired!

Oh, and I write in both English and German. No promises on translating the German posts into English, or vice-versa.
Maybe if you ask nicely. I'm really into polite manners for some reason.

Salutations!
